Over the last few years, Absolutely Independent has managed to get a great number of series on the air. Find My Family, The Phone and Behind the Front Door have entered markets not only as formats, but also as finished product (FP). More and more territories are profiting from formats produced in different territories; they’re taking advantage of these programs’ successes. As a direct result, the FP library has been increasing and we foresee strong growth.

On January 12th 2011, a spectacular awards show was recorded in the city of Groningen, The Netherlands. The European Border Breaker Awards (EBBA) aims to promote awareness of European musical talent. Absolutely Independent is promoting this awards show internationally. We recently closed deals with Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Italy and Estonia, all of whom will air the EBBA. We have already come a long way; however, we need your continued support. Broadcasts of this awards show are fully sponsored by the European Commission and are therefore entirely free of charge! So, if you are a broadcaster, and if you have a slot available for a fun, exciting, and cost-efficient show, grab the opportunity!

Read more about the EBBA Awards on our website and contact us.

To follow up on our previous newsletter, we are ready to reveal the names of the Mock Mediation held during MIPFormats in Cannes. This interactive Mock Mediation is organized by FRAPA and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. It demonstrates the process of mediation in a lively and entertaining way--and it promises to be juicy!

Please join us, and watch Jens Bujar and Brigitte Joppich from Grundy Entertainment versus Lincoln Hiatt from Genetic TV and Jonathan Coad from Lewis Silkin LLP. You’ll also see Sarah Theurich from WIPO and host David Lyle. Expect some rock & roll—on-stage!

Read more about this on the upgraded FRAPA website.

VRT (Vlaamse Radio en Televisieomroep) is the Flemish speaking Belgium public broadcaster that broadcasts in the Dutch language. Absolutely Independent has a long history with VRT, having started to distribute its formats in 1999.

VRT delivers a wide variety of formats with a distinctly “public” flavor to the Absolutely Independent catalogue. Formats to definitely check out are:

1. Brilliant Brains
(light entertainment with great ideas)
2. Famous Food
(factual entertainment with a flavor)
3. Nations Beat
(light entertainment with a musical theme)
4. Prime Time Pollution
(straightforward comedy)
5. Tested on Humans
(factual entertainment with human guinea pigs)
Certain episodes of Famous Food are available for the international market as Finished Product. World-famous Belgian Chef Jeroen Meus attempts to cook the favorite dish of a legendary person. The chef collaborates with the legend’s closest living friends, at the legend’s own location. The Belgians filmed this program for Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra, Ian Flemming, Roald Dahl, Freddy Mercury, Salvador Dali, Johnny Cash, Alfred Hitchcock, Jimmy Hendrix, to name just a few.
