After the initial series of Find My Family, entitled Long Lost Family in the UK, ITV has wasted no time in renewing the moving reality program. The first six episode series, produced by Wall to Wall, was hosted by Davina McCall, (Big Brother UK) and Nicky Campbell (Watchdog, Wheel of Fortune and BBC Radio 5 Live). In its 9 pm ITV1 timeslot, the series had no problems tracking down an average of five million viewers. Casting on the second series is already in the works. 

Find My Family has sustained its success in The Netherlands; it’s been on air for more than 19 years and is still going strong! The know-how and expertise the researchers have developed over the years have made the program a success in Australia, the US, Spain, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Norway and Poland. Dutch state broadcaster KRO, creator of the successful format XXS, focusing on those with anorexia, is now airing a spin-off entitled XXL. And yes, you guessed it! XXL follows those individuals having to deal with being obese. Reruns of XXS have been programmed to lead in to the XXL spinoff, which has seen both programs scoring well in the ratings.

The broadcaster hopes it will give additional insights into the day-to-day lives of those suffering from obesity. By doing so, the KRO hopes to change preconceived notions, mostly negative, about being overweight. To the ‘outside’ world it’s difficult to grasp the true impact that being overweight has on one’s life. Why is someone overweight and how does that affect this person in the core of his or her being? Although life is often an uphill battle for the obese, the program also focuses on how the individuals that are followed experience the positive things in life.
