MTV Rock in Rebibbia recorded its Grand Final of The Prison Choir from 3Koma.
 In the prison courtyard, the rocking jailbirds showed some 400 fellow inmates and their relatives that a musical feel-good vibe can be fostered even in a prison. Three months of rehearsals and a highly professional training in a music lab resulted in this unique reality series set within the confines of prison.
Prisoners of various ages and backgrounds learned to play and act together, meeting week after week. A range of well-known Italian musicians took the stage as opening acts, performing fast and exhilarating selections from their own repertoire.
But the Rock in Rebibbia band was the absolute hit of this jailhouse rock concert. Trained by music teachers, the band displayed a stunning level of musicianship as well as a real rock-star attitude. Great things can happen in prison: with the right kind of encouragement, prisoners can truly turn their lives around.
“An amazing music-based fairytale” as the famous Italian songwriter Max Gazzè pointed out at the end of the show.

Absolutely Independent colleague Erik de Winter was also present. He was completely surprised and enthusiastic: “The final was great. There were some really vibrant characters in the prison band: they absolutely rocked. The performance was beyond all expectations; they gave it all they had!”
The Prison Choir format was created by 3Koma from Spain and has received two Spanish awards. 3Koma was also nominated for the Emmy Awards 2007. In Norway, the show was broadcast at SBS last fall and is now nominated for the Gulderutten award for the best documentary.
Spain is recording their second season of Prison Choir. The format has been optioned and sold in many countries like The Netherlands, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Greece, South Africa, and Norway.
