People seldom make the time to chat to their neighbors anymore. But what role can the people on your street actually play in your life?
Behind the Front Door visits random streets in neighborhoods throughout the country. Residents are shown a photo of a neighbor and asked what they know about that particular person. What is his or her situation? Is he or she happy? Do they know anything about that person?
Next, we slip the person the neighbor’s front-door key for a look around the home. Meanwhile, the neighbor watches everything from a van. As the neighbors rummage around in each other’s homes, they learn more from this person by opening cupboards, looking at pictures on the wall.... In the process, prejudices are disproved, assumptions challenged.
By looking in the house, a picture can be formed of the person or people living there. At the end of the “viewings”, the visitors watch a DVD with a video portrait about the neighbor’s life, work, and hobbies. When the neighbors meet at last, the final question is answered. Because now, they are now no longer strangers; they’re real neighbors.
