Women offenders sentenced to Shakespeare.
Eight convicted young women aged 18 to 34 are brought together in order to give a positive slant to their lives. Together, they will perform the rock musical version of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ by William Shakespeare, under the expert guidance of a team of professionals. This could lead to a permanent part in a theatre tour throughout the whole of the Netherlands and a future as an actress.
Harsh, fierce and breathtaking.
Upon immediate release from their cells, the girls enter into a very hard battle with themselves in particular. The backgrounds of the eight colourful participants are totally different: from the neglected Moroccan girl in her twenties to the spoilt girl from the affluent region of Gooi in Hilversum. They have been sentenced for various offences: fights, attacks, breaking and entering, happy slapping or vandalism. However, these modern ‘shrews’ also have things in common: they are rebelling against society, are afraid of going off the rails again and, in the depths of their souls, they are unhappy.
