Five people, all of whom struggling with an eating disorder, are being followed by a host in a show called XXSize in the course of a year. During this year these people are being monitored while attempting to deal with themselves in the difficult process of gaining or maintaining their weight. Often, these stories are quite sad and demonstrate how difficult it is to beat anorexia or obesitas.
In the Dutch series we saw nurse Fleur (25) who has been struggling with anorexia for 10 years now. Her main wish is to overcome this disease before her mother will die of cancer. But it is this illness, which caused the anorexia in the first place. Fleur is in control of her own food, in contrast to the intangible disease which keeps control over her mother but also over her….
For the past two years, Mike (19) has been living with a huge secret. He suffers from anorexia. He wants to share his secret with the world, which won’t be an easy thing to do. He will start by telling his mom about the anorexia. After that it will be time to deal with his eating disorder by, hopefully, admittance to a clinic.
After being admitted to a clinic, Lotte (14) is allowed to go back home. Not because she has finished her treatment successfully but because she is beyond help. It’s up to Lotte now. Will she manage to maintain her weight or will she be forced to check into a hospital?
Sandra (39), mother of three, has issues with food and weight for years now. At the moment she is participating in a day treatment programme. Sandra hopes she can conquer the anorexia one day, so she can be happy and lead a normal family with her kids.
Former model Stella (19) has been discharged from the clinic. After years of treatment, she hopes to be able to live the life of a regular college-girl; studying, partying and having good times with friends. Will she be able to find a healthy lifestyle and not fall back into old habits?
XXSize shows how an eating-disorder influences ones life and tries to take away the preconceived opinions that people that deal with these kinds of disorders deal with every day. The first series dealt with people who were anorexic, series 2 is dealing with obese people. |
